Another week another win for Five Ways
By Jess Banner
Five Wasy continue their winning streak with hard fought victory over St Leonards
The match against St. Leonards took place on a grey day at the Masshouse. Both of The sides housed immense talent so the spectators knew they were in for a great game.
The first half performance saw Five Ways take control, through possession and a quick tempo forwards phases, giving the backs a perfect platform for some classy displays of razzmatazz.
With 10 minutes on the clock, after numerous attacking phases, the ball worked its way to Joe Brook who's slick hands found Jess Banner who attacked the gap and crossed in the corner. The tricky extras couldn't be added from the side line.
Soon after Ways were on the attack again. A very impressive move, which started on the half way line, saw a delayed pass from John Mounter set Ian Chaston on his way. Chaston jinked his way around numerous defenders and into the opposition 22. He was caught 15 metres out but managed to offload to Jess Banner who crashed through the man to score his second of the day. This time, the extras were added by Chaston.
The second half was a defensive masterclass performance from the boys in red and gold. A good 30 minutes under pressure, after poor discipline, saw St Leonards constantly kicking inside of Five Ways 22. The job was made extremely hard by their battering ram of of a 12, and Danny Cipriani-esque 10 who was floating 2 man miss passes and chips into the defensive holes.
Poor discipline from the away team lead to Ways taking advantage on their field position and Ian Chaston slotted 3 penalties in the second half to give Ways a 21-0 lead. Five Ways remained a brick wall in defence and despite the constant waves of attack, managed to keep the opposition out and the St Leonards scoreline at 0.
Man of the match went to Rob 'jetboy' Wigley for another Stellar performance.
Another great performance all round from Five Ways. Next up is an away trip to league leaders Trentham.
